Full Spectrum Doula Located in Chicago
Welcome to Nightlight Birth and Body! I’m Leila (she, her, hers), a full spectrum doula in the great City of Chicago. I believe that doulas serve many purposes – we provide emotional, physical, information and advocacy support for families throughout their fertility, pregnancy, birth and postpartum journey. We work with families, with birthing parents, their support team, and their wider villages, to empower our families to make evidence-based, intuition-centered decisions for themselves, their bodies, and their families.
Nightlight is a combination of the meanings of my names. Leila (my first name, which comes from my maternal aunt) means “night” in Arabic, and Helen (my middle name, which comes from my mother and maternal grandmother) means “light” in Ancient Greek. Think of me as your night light – shining a light when one is needed, helping people find their own way through family building.

I work and live on land that many of us now call Chicago, Illinois. However, this land has historically been and is currently home to many indigenous tribes. I pay homage to the Council of Three Fires, a confederacy of the Ojibwe, Odawa and Potawatomi tribes who call this land home. I also honor the Miami, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Sac and Fox Nations, who also live on this land. Finally, I pledge to remember the genocide, ethnic cleansing and continued erasure of indigenous people and cultures from this land. I believe reparations come in the form of land-back programs, uplifting indigenous voices, and listening and following the lead of tribal leaders and community members, and as a birth worker sharing this space, I will work to center reparations in all that I do.
