As you get closer to childbirth, you’ll want to start to pack your hospital bag. I’ve compiled a list here of what to bring, with some tips and tricks scattered throughout! Want help planning for childbirth? I’d love to support you; so feel free to reach out here!

For the birthing parent:

  • Button up shirt/bathrobe/nightgown (great for skin-to-skin!)

  • Warm socks (grippy socks are a bonus!)

  • Water bottle with straw

  • Pillow, blanket, or anything that will help make you comfortable in your delivery room and recovery room

  • Snacks (think about things that are easy to eat, delicious, and can give you lots of calories quickly!)

  • Eye mask

  • Swimsuit and flip flops

  • Nursing bras

  • Toiletries (including toothbrush and toothpaste, hair brush and ties, etc.)

  • Photo ID, Insurance Card, folder to collect all important papers

  • Eyeglasses and contacts (if necessary)

For your baby:

  • Going home outfit for baby

  • Warm clothing - hat, socks, mittens (if it’s cold outside)

  • Car seat (do an install before labor begins, then take out the car seat until it’s time to head to the hospital!)

  • Blanket

For the non-laboring partner:

  • A change of clothing (don’t forget extra underwear and socks!)

  • A button down or zip up comfortable shirt (great for skin to skin time!)

  • Snacks and meals for you

  • Water bottle

  • Swimsuit and flip flops

Extra items:

  • An extra bag (so you can take home as much hospital gear as possible! Grab pads, diapers, ointments, etc. to help with your first few days at home.)

  • Two phone chargers (one for birthing parent and one for support person)

  • Other necessary chargers for electronics

  • Portable speaker with charger, and/or headphones

  • Any items to help my hospital room into soothing environment (favorite blanket, picture of your dog, etc.)

  • Nursing pillow (if planning to nurse)

  • Any prescriptions that birthing parent or support partner need

  • Stroller fan (great for laboring - can attach right to the bed!)
